Living Healthy is a Choice

"Working hard is a daily commitment. Each day you have to get up and commit yourself to the day's healthy eating and working out. There's no easy way, but there's the right way. And this is it."
I read this in an email I got this week from the Biggest Loser Club.  I thought it was pretty good and a reminder that committing to a healthy lifestyle isn't something that we are going to do "for a while" or "until this date".  Living a healthy life is a daily CHOICE and it's forever.  We must re-commit ourselves to the journey of health everyday because our society is focused on getting whatever it is we want right away.  We are tempted each day to live "easy"...fast food restaraunts, weight loss in a pill form, etc. etc.  Almost everything our heart desires can be bought instead of worked for!
I love when I tell someone that I've lost 40 lbs. and I get the question "What are you doing to lose the weight?"  You know I used to be the one asking that question because I was always the one looking to get the weight off as fast as I could, even though I wasn't learning anything along the way about KEEPING the weight off, which is the most important part!  I was also the same girl who would spend months losing the weight to only put it all back on (plus more) in a matter of weeks. 
The theory of weight loss is Simple!  Burn more calories than you eat!  So, how have I lost 40+ pounds?  The good old fashioned way!  I workout, eat healthy (most of the time), drink water, get plenty of sleep, etc.  We all know the work it takes to lose weight, or maintain it....but how about we quit looking at it like WORK and start looking at it as an opportunity.  We have the opportunity every day to better ourselves through exercise by running/walking/swimming farther than we did the day before, trying a new food with powerful health benefits, turning off the TV and going to bed so your body can re-charge!  We all hold the power to create our lives the way we want them to be.  But, it IS a daily process. 
There are days that I make the choice to eat something that I haven't in a while.  The difference now is I gave up beating myself up about it, nothing is forbidden in my diet anymore!  That is such a wonderful way of living and eating!  I learned the hard way that when I forbid myself from eating something it only makes that food that much more tempting and when I did let myself have it I would usually binge and eat MUCH more than I would have if I would have just allowed myself to have a little bit when I felt the need for it.  Ice cream used to be a huge temptation, especially Coldstone Creamery.  Now that I've told myself that I can have Coldstone whenever I want it I can't tell you the last time I ate it!  It took the desire out of the food to tell myself I could have it whenever I wanted it!  Why couldn't I of learned this years ago!
This last week I only got 2 days of exercise in...it has been a VERY long time since I've let that happen.  This week I had activities every night almost and I was out of town Friday and Saturday so my gym time sufffered.  But, I'm not letting it sabotage my progress.  I'm getting back to the gym and looking at it that my body has probably appreciated the break since I've been training so hard for my 5k.  I'm making the CHOICE to continue my healthy lifestyle no matter what stands in my way!  Are you making that same choice?  I hope so:)

Detox

The second time of detoxing is much easier for me than the first!  Not totally sure why but I'm having a much better time staying on track and getting in more fruits and veggies than I did last time.  I have felt tired though, so I think my body is really getting some "nasty" toxins out!
One thing I did want to share though was about my PMS after last detox.  I have horrible period cramps, usually just the first day, but sometimes they are so bad I'm laid up on the couch w/ Advil and a heating pad for several hours.  Well, I did detox in January and when I started my period after that I had NO CRAMPS.  That was a first since I got off the pill in March 20008!  I'm confident to say it was because of the detox!  I am eliminating the excess estrogen in my system and so I didn't have the horrible cramps as I usually do!  I also didn't feel like my cravings were as prominent either.  Needless to say, I'm pretty glad I decided to incorporate the Detox into my healthy diet!

Had to Share!

As some of you may know I'm on a journey to lose 105 lbs.  I've been doing so well and am averaging 6-8 lbs per month so far.  Well, this morning I got on the scale and am the lightest I've been since Summer 2008!  That makes me so happy!  I just had to share it w/ you because if any of you are trying to lose weight I want to be a motivator for you to stay on the journey!  Seeing that number on the scale this morning made my whole day!  When I was telling my Aunt tonight she said to me "Your whole face is glowing"...it's because all of my hard work is paying off, and I'm seeing progress!  Why wouldn't I be happy!?
Well, I'm off to bed....Tomorrow morning is W6D3 for 5k training and it's 25 minutes of running...nonstop! 

Water vs. Coke

WATER
1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. (Likely applies to half the world population.)
2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is mistaken for hunger.
3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%.
4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study.
5. Lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.
6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain
for up to 80% of sufferers.
7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.
8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%., and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

COKE
1. In many states the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from the highway after a car accident.
2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke and it will be gone in two days.
3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let the "real thing" sit for one hour,
then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china.
4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers.  Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds
Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.
5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble
away the corrosion.
6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes.
7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.
8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of Coke into the load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your windshield.

 * The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. It will dissolve a nail in about four days. Phosphoric
acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major contributor to the rising increase of osteoporosis.

Detoxing Again & W6D2...almost!

Today I started my Arbonne 7 Day Detox again.  So far so good...except being tired!  This happened last time I did it too, I'm not sure if it's my body getting used to it or what but I am heading to bed early hoping to wake up tomorrow w/ more energy!  I also read today that I can use Arbonne Fizz Tabs in it so that makes it taste a LITTLE better:)
I am on Week 6 Day 2 of my 5k training tomorrow!  I repeated Week 5 because I wasn't happy with my progress and feel much more confident about moving forward.  I really like the 5k training I'm using.  I know many of you are using it also and I hope you are enjoying it and finding it easy to use also.
If you are training but don't have a race planned I'd encourage you to sign up for one!  It gives your goal more meaning when there is a date you are working towards.  My 5k is April 18 in Lawrence and is the Kansas Marathon.  I'm excited and am looking forward to crossing the finish line!

Greek Yogurt

In the last few weeks I've added something new to my diet... Greek Yogurt.  I've heard lots of people talk about it and finally my curiosity got the best of me and I decided to try it.  I've been pleasantly surprised too!  I've tried Chobani Greek Yogurt and really like it.  I've eaten Blueberry, Strawberry & Vanilla...I'm not a fan of theVanilla but might like it in a recipe or with granola added, I just didn't care for it plain.
You might be wondering what is different about Greek Yogurt vs. Regular Yogurt.  On the Chobani website they explain why you might want to give Greek Yogurt a "taste".

2010 Dream Board

A few years ago when I began my Arbonne business we made Dream Boards.  At the time I really didn't understand the importance of giving your dreams vision...but over the years I've seen how writing down your goals and visualizing them can bring them to life!  So, here is my Dream Board for 2010.  As you can see my health is my priority...and so far so good!  I've not given up on my New Years Resolution...even though I don't call it a resolution at all.  I've chosen a new way of life, a better way to live... and I'm seeing success! 
What do you want your life to look like?  I encourage everyone to make a dream board, put it somewhere that you can see everyday to remind yourself of why you are making certain choices in your life.  After all...God doesn't give us a dream that He doesn't believe we can't achieve!


I also found an awesome site My One Word.  “My One Word” is an experiment designed to move you beyond the past and look ahead. The challenge is simple: lose the long list of changes you want to make this year and instead pick ONE WORD.This process provides clarity by taking all of your big plans for life change and narrowing them down into a single thing. One word focuses on your character and creates a vision for your future.
My One Word is FEARLESS.  I have so many goals this year that will require me to be FEARLESS to get what I want!  As you can see I put my word right in the middle of my dream board also, that way I don't forget that even though I may be scared, everything I desire in 2010 will be worth the courage to look past the fear and follow my dreams!
